While deemed overrated or overhyped by some, there's no doubt that Black Panther was a major benchmark for Marvel Studios and is considered by many to be one of 2018's better movies. Though not flawless, the film does have some solid acting, world-building, and one of the best villains in the MCU. Many also felt that it broke barriers by having a cast that was 98% Black and if Kevin Feige is correct, this is only the beginning.
During an interview with Variety, Feige said that Black Panther was not a one-off film and would be the start of more diversity for the MCU. It seems like more representation is on the way, we just don't know in what form yet.
"Yes, absolutely. Sometimes people have asked very directly, 'Is [Black] Panther a one-off?' in terms of inclusion representation and the answer is no, it's the beginning. That it worked out as well as it worked out just encourages to head in the direction that we were going to head anyway. You look at that film and the experience of the film, it was incredible. That movie, obviously, would not have been what it was if everyone sitting around the table looked like me or you and that's actually true for all the movies."
Next year's Captain Marvel will be the first MCU film to have a woman in a solo lead since Ant-Man and The Wasp was technically the first time a female character had a lead role; it just had to be shared. Still, Captain Marvel will be a bit more eventful since the movie will focus primarily on her, as well as the Kree/Skrull War.
Everyone and their grandparents know that a Black Widow movie is coming out, along with a Black Panther sequel, an Eternals film, and a follow up to Doctor Strange but anything else aside from those films are still unknown.
Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26, 2019.
