Black Panther Is One Of The National Board Of Review’s Top Films Of The Year

The awards season is upon us and it looks like Black Panther's already getting a bit of recognition from the National Board of Review.

According to a report by ComicBook.com, The National Board of Review has just named T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) very first standalone film as one of Hollywood's top offerings this year, listing the film alongside nine other films like Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Eighth Grade, First Reformed, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, If Beal Street Could Talk, A Quiet Place, Roma, A Star Is Born, and Mary Poppins Returns.

This nod from NBR isn't the first award that Ryan Coogler's Marvel movie has received this year. Black Panther bagged top prizes during the annual BET Awards and was named Film of the Year by the Hollywood Film Awards.

It looks like Black Panther is doing well for itself this awards season, though it remains to be seen whether or not the film will receive any recognition at the Oscars next year. Disney has been campaigning for the comic book movie as one of its Academy Award contenders alongside Avengers: Infinity War and Incredibles, and many are hoping that Black Panther manages to nab a major award during the event.

The very first all-black comic book movie from Marvel, Black Panther's success proved that viewers yearned for diversity and representation in media. The film broke ground in the comic book movie genre. Now, Marvel is pushing the film for 16 categories at the 91st Academy Awards next year, and the includes the categories for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.
