Black Panther Gets Highest First Choice Votes For Best Picture Oscar In New Poll

Black Panther might be the only comic book movie in the list of Best Picture nominees for this year's Academy Awards but it looks like Chadwick Boseman's first standalone movie as the King of Wakanda actually has the support of the people.

According to a new report by the USA Today, Fandango just recently polled around 3000 people, asking respondents which of the Oscar nominees they'd like to see winning the Best Picture at the 2019 Academy Awards. Did they want the winner to be Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born, or Vice?

The data shows that 24% of the people who responded that they've seen the majority of the Best Picture nominees picked Black Panther. 19% chose A Star Is Born, a musical directed by Guardians of the Galaxy's Bradley Cooper with Lady Gaga as its lead star. 18% of the respondents would want to see Bohemian Rhapsody take the win. Green Book, Peter Farrelly's dramady, was supported by 14% of the individuals in the pool.

Meanwhile, 8% rooted for Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, 7% for Alfonso Cuaron's film Roma, 6% for period dramedy The Favourite, and 4% decided to vote on Vice, the Dick Cheney movie by Adam McKay.

Of course, it doesn't come as a surprise that Black Panther nabbed the most votes in the poll. Not only is it a popular Marvel movie, but it's also a groundbreaking film that accentuates the need for diversity in cinema.
