Black Panther And Avengers: Infinity War Find Their Way In Oscar Shortlists

It looks like Marvel Studio's Oscar campaign for Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity Waris doing pretty well.

The Academy just released its shortlist for nine of its minor awards categories ahead of the actual Oscar nominations next month, Marvel Studios managed to do well for itself, nabbing seven mentions. The shortlist that the Academy released includes categories like Best Original Song, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score and among them, the ground-breaking and critically acclaimed all-black comic book movie Black Panther earned its place among four shortlists for categories like Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, as well as Visual Effects.

Avengers: Infinity War also found itself in two different shortlists for Original Score and Visual Effects. Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp movie also managed to get a mention for visual effects.

As exciting as these may sound, these shortlists are only for the Oscar's minor categories. Marvel has been pushing Black Panther and Infinity War for major awards at the Academy Event like Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, however, the Academy has yet to release its shortlist for these major categories.

While comic book movies generally receive very little recognition at the Oscars, Marvel is hoping that the landscape might change and that its films might receive a few nods at the event. There are especially high hopes for Black Panther, a comic book movie that broke ground as an all-black superhero movie that proved to Hollywood that audiences needed to see diversity and representation in media.

Marvel's sequel to Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, is scheduled to premiere April 26, 2019.
