The second episode of Black Mirror Season 6, entitled Loch Henry, has undoubtedly one of the most mindblowing endings in this season.

The official synopsis of the episode reads:

"While filming a nature documentary in a sleepy Scottish town, a young couple catches wind of a juicy local story with ties to shocking past events."

Pia (played by Myha'la Herrold) follows her boyfriend, Davis (played by Samuel Blenkin), to a sleepy Scottish town called Loch Henry.

While the original goal was to do a documentary on an egg guy from Rùm who guards rare eggs against collectors, the young couple decided to change their direction.

This is after Pia learns of Iain Adair, a local who turned out to be a serial killer in the '90s, who was discovered to have tortured and killed his victims.

After the story blew up, tourists stopped going to Loch Henry fearing they might end up dead too.

Davis' late father, Kenneth, was a police officer who worked on the case and even got shot by Iain. Although he didn't die from the confrontation, he contracted a staph infection at the hospital while getting treated for the gunshot wound.

At first, Davis is reluctant about doing the documentary. But Pia and his childhood friend, Stuart (played by Daniel Portman), finally convince him to.

Conveniently, Stuart's mom collected clippings of the case since she was closely engrossed in it. So this helped speed up their research.

As the trio starts shooting the documentary, they end up digging for more information.

With no way to talk to Davis, Stuart's dad, Richard (played by John Hannah) decides to stage an accident so he could talk to Davis at the hospital without his son.

Pia, on the other hand, goes home with Davis' mom, Janet (played by Monica Dolan). As Janet prepares their dinner, Pia heads upstairs to work on the material they filmed.

Pia then begins looking at Janet's collection of Bergerac VHS tapes until she discovers the truth-- Iain did not act alone.

As it turned out, Iain was involved in a complicated ménage a Trois with Davis' parents, Janet, and police officer Kenneth.

Still, the worst discovery of it all was that Janet was the one responsible for torturing their victims as she hid behind a red mask and a pseudonym, 'the mistress.'

With her discovery, Pia scrambles to get a hold of Davis. She walks out of the house and Janet follows her in the car as she realizes that Pia already saw one of the tapes.

As Pia crosses through a river, she slips and her face hits one of the rocks. There is a loud crashing sound and Pia appears to be unconscious.

In the distance, Janet keeps calling Pia's name in her sweet, Irish accent. She promises she won't hurt her but doesn't realize that Pia is already dead.

Fearing the worst, Pia returns home and collects her Bergerac tapes on a table. She writes a note for Davis, puts on her red mask, and hangs herself from the ceiling.

Although there's no confirmation that Pia is dead, it appears to be her fate in the show since we don't see her anymore.

Flash forward to a few months later, Davis is on stage collecting his BAFTA Award together with Streamberry executives. The filmmakers dedicate the movie to Davis and mention "his late girlfriend, Pia."

Even though Davis is on stage with the group, he is unable to speak. He is later standing beside his producer, as she talks to an actress about an upcoming film on Davis and Pia.

As he is alone in his room, Davis receives a call from Stuart, who congratulates him for winning the award. As Pia and Stuart guessed, the documentary earned the attention of travelers and Loch Henry is now filled with them.

Davis hangs up the phone and opens the note his mom left him before killing herself. It simply reads "for your film." After that, we see Davis tearing up, as he is forced to live with the horror of the documentary.

Perhaps this is Charlie Brooker's way of showing how these true crime documentaries affect the victims, perpetrators, and the people close to them.
