Black Canary Screenwriter Teases Dinah Lance's Comic-Accurate Outfit in HBO Max Film

There is little doubt that Dinah Lance looked very different in Birds of Prey. Instead of the trademark black leather, Jurnee Smollett's version of the comic book character preferred brightly-colored outfits. But will this change in the Black Canary movie? Screenwriter Misha Green may have confirmed that Dinah will get the comic-accurate look in the upcoming HBO Max film.

People are understandably excited about the Black Canary film since it could lead to more Birds of Prey spin-offs in the future. However, the most important thing about the project is that it will focus on Smollett's Dinah and possibly reveal some of the character's backstory.

But can we expect a more familiar-looking Black Canary in the film? A fan recently asked Green what she thinks about "biker jackets and fishnets." Interestingly, the screenwriter's response seems to confirm that she wants Dinah to don her traditional comic book look.

It's just a comment but fans are convinced that this means Black Canary in the movie will look more like Black Canary in the comic books. It's an exciting thought but we'll have to wait for our first glimpse at Dinah's return before we can confirm this.

For now, Green and Smollett, who had previously worked together on Lovecraft Country, are the only names confirmed for Black Canary. However, fans are hoping that the project will also feature Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Helena Bertinelli and Rosie Perez's Renee Montoya from Birds of Prey. Hopefully, an update will be dropped before the end of the year.

Black Canary has not yet been given an official production start date or an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
