After nearly two decades of hype and all the momentum in the world, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's tenure in the DC Universe was cut short following the major shake-up courtesy of DC Studios' new bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Initially, Johnson had plans to expand the franchise and even teased potential crossover projects featuring the Justice League but obviously, that wasn't to be.

Now that it's crystal clear that Black Adam has no place in the franchise Gunn and Safran are re-establishing, a lot of people are convinced that he should seek out new opportunities elsewhere. In fact, most fans believe that it's only a matter of time before Dwayne becomes Marvel-bound.

On Twitter, the multi-time WWE champion paid tribute to the one and only Stan Lee whom he considers his "mentor" on what would have been his 100th birthday. Naturally, it sparked speculation that he's already planting the seeds for his eventual jump to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He wrote: "Happy Heavenly Birthday to an old friend and mentor @TheRealStanLee. As I broke into Hollywood many years ago, he was always so supportive and encouraging which blew me away. His kindness really moved me. Years later I got to say thank you". Check it out here:

Of course, the most logical career move for The Rock right now is to make that MCU jump, especially now that his future as Black Adam just became uncertain. But with several rumors claiming he only wants to play "major" characters and not be involved in low-tier projects, one would assume that Marvel Studios is thinking twice about letting him in.

Meanwhile, Black Adam is now streaming on HBO Max.
