It is common for film production to take several years to complete in order to ensure that the quality matches the budget because the budget serves as a guide for how the production must succeed in meeting the milestones set by the release date. DCU's Black Adam is one of the films that can be said to have failed miserably at the box office and still gets to be discussed at this time.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson’s Black Adam received mixed reactions from fans and critics. In December, Variety reported that the superhero movie would lose up to $100 million. As per Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed $384.6 million on a reported budget of $195 million. However, that budget does not include marketing and production costs, which are between $80 and $100 million.
Given the necessary cuts, the film was apparently going to lose a big amount of money to Warner Bros, and despite Johnson's popularity in the DC Universe, he clearly could not use his immense star power to make the film a success. Noah Centineo, as one of the movie stars, shared with The Hollywood Reporter what stayed with him during Black Adam’s filming, regardless of its reputation at the box office or critic rating.

“We had such a wonderful time making that movie. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed four months on a shoot like I did during the filming of that movie. There were so many of us, and we all just blended together, and everybody was so willing to just befriend one another, and we really became family, and that’s inclusive of Dwayne as well. He set the tone, and not just the cast, but everyone involved in it.” Centineo narrated.
Earlier this year, Johnson broke his silence about the film’s alleged failure and how it can be a positive thing if one knows how to see it as a way of altering your career, yet how can it be all of those things without having the opportunity to have a second movie, as most demand?
“While having the guts to fail is extremely uncomfortable. And sometimes it’s scary,” he admitted, reports aceshowbiz.com. “But guts over desire has served me all throughout my career – and when we put ourselves in positions to be uncomfortable – to have the guts to fail – we actually set ourselves up in a much more powerful way to WIN. It’s 2023. It’s our year. Guts over desire,” Johnson said.

The Rock also announced that his future as the Black Adam will not move forward with James Gunn's new DC Universe. He said in a statement in December 2022: “My passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.”
