Birds of Prey Star had to Chug Energy Drinks while Working on 'Inhumane' Action Scene

If you watched Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) this weekend, there's a huge chance that you were blown away by the exciting action sequences. However, one of those fight scenes proved to be too much for the stars. For instance, Jurnee Smollett-Bell has admitted that she had to drink energy drinks just to keep up with the fighting.

Smollett-Bell and her Birds of Prey co-stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rosie Perez recently spoke to Cinemablend about working on the Warner Bros. flick. Interestingly, all three actresses agreed that the funhouse fight was one of the most difficult scenes they filmed and Smollett-Bell stated that it was painful for everyone.

"Well, that sequence was very inhumane," she said. "We're not gonna tell you a lie. It wasn't pretty. We were in pain."

It doesn't end there. Smollett-Bell admitted that she developed a taste for energy drinks because she needed all the strength she could muster to go through the sequence.

"In between takes, I was definitely downing some high ball energy drinks," she stated. "I never drank energy drinks prior to this, and I was the person that was like, 'Don't do it, Jocqui,' my younger brother. Man. That scene made me a believer."

We know what she's talking about. The scene in the funhouse was a crazy action-packed sequence that showed off each character's fighting prowess. Needless to say, it looks like the cast's efforts were worth every second.

Birds of Prey is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
