Bird Box Challenge Forces YouTube To Ban Dangerous Prank Videos

Being one of the most successful Netflix films of the year, it doesn't come as a surprise seeing Bird Box fans imitating Sandra Bollock's Malorie by tying blindfolds around their eyes and walking around outside their homes in what's called the "Bird Box Challenge."

Now, after Netflix's response to these dangerous "Bird Box Challenge" videos, YouTube has also decided to take action, updating its video policy to prohibit the site's users from making and posting videos that suggest the clear risk of injury and or death.

"We recently announced updates to our policies regarding dangerous challenges and pranks," reads YouTube's statement to the Associated Press. "Challenges that present an apparent risk of death are not allowed on YouTube. Content that features a child participating in dangerous challenges that pose an imminent risk of injury or bodily harm are also not allowed on YouTube."

According to the site, the company doesn't allow pranks that lead its victims into thinking that they are in apparent physical danger or that they are in situations that can lead to actual physical harm. Not only that but "dangerous and abusive pranks that may cause emotional distress to children are not allowed."

While going around blindfolded in Birdbox might have saved people's lives, they cause immediate concern for those living in the real world. Those going around blindfolded could run into bushes, or worse yet, get hit by cars. Not only have "Bird Box Challenge" videos shown children running straight into walls while blindfolded, but one even featured a direct car crash because of the challenge.

It's a good thing that YouTube has decided to take a stand against videos like these for the welfare of its users.
