Bioware Acknowledge Mass Effect: Andromeda Failure, Promises Anthem Will Be Better

Bioware might be one of the most renowned game developers of recent memory but the studio's reputation took a hit after Mass Effect: Andromeda came out. The game suffered from a number of bugs upon launch and got mixed reviews from critics, forcing the developers to put the series on hold for the moment.

Fans weren't pleased with Andromeda and Bioware is aware of that, promising that their new game Anthem will be much better during a blog post.

In the blog, Bioware's general manager Casey Hudson commented on what the studio has gone through over the past 20 years and acknowledged how fans were disappointed in Andromeda. Hudson brought up how fans wanted the game to have additional story DLC to flesh out the fate of the Quarians and how the studio failed to deliver the content, which frustrated him.

"When I returned to BioWare last summer, Mass Effect: Andromeda had just been released and there was a significant movement among players asking for a story DLC that would answer questions surrounding the fate of the quarians. As you know, we were not able to deliver story DLC for Andromeda—this was as frustrating for us as it was for players, and it was something we knew we had to solve in future games."

Now promising that things will be better, he did hype up Anthem as something new and exciting, while still feeling like a proper Bioware game. Hudson promised that the game would be unlike anything they have played before, which is a pretty bold statement. Given the company's streak of great games, we can only hope they deliver with Anthem.

"It's in that spirit that we are working through production on Anthem–a game designed to create a whole new world of story and character that you can experience with friends in an ongoing series of adventures. It will be unlike anything you've played, but if we do it right, it will feel very distinctly BioWare."

Anthem is currently slated for a 2019 release date and will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
