[Warning: This post contains spoilers for Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1, Wine and Roses.]

Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1, titled Wine and Roses, depicts the aftermath of Season 5's tragic finale. And it doesn't bode well for any of the characters — with the exception of Lalo (Tony Dalton), which makes us even more concerned about what's to come.

Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1 bids farewell to Saul Goodman

Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1 has an unsettling tone throughout, and it begins with the very first scene. The premiere begins with a farewell to Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), briefly transporting viewers to the post-Breaking Bad timeline.

After his disappearance at the end of Breaking Bad, Saul's house is being cleaned out. Viewers will be disturbed as they observe his fancy clothes and promotional cut-outs being thrown in the trash. It's an appropriate way to start the final act, but it also serves as a reminder that Saul's narrative will end in tragedy.

He might not be the only one. The opening zooms in on one of Saul's many discarded items just before returning to the past. It's the top from Jimmy and Kim's (Rhea Seehorn's) Zafiro Aejo, a reminder of their deceptions.

The fact that he kept it implies that he still cared about Kim during the run of Breaking Bad. That bodes ill for her fate in the prequel.

Lalo concludes Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1 with a scheme

The backstory of Lalo Salamanca (Dalton) is maybe the most concerning element of Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1. Lalo is only mildly shaken after surviving Gus Fring's assassination attempt at the end of Season 5. He has a new lease on life at the end of the premiere.

Lalo calls Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) just as he's ready to cross the border again and devises a scheme to prove Gus was behind it all. That will almost certainly entail locating Nacho, whose return to Albuquerque has now become more difficult.

Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 1 concludes with Lalo feeling vengeful and driven. We can't think of a more terrifying place to leave stuff. It's safe to say that the show will be a thrill.
