Ben Schwartz: Sonic the Hedgehog is an Excited Kid Who Wasn’t Allowed to Play with Others

After a last-minute redesign, Sonic the Hedgehog is finally going to hit theaters, and everyone is excited to see how the character is brought to life on the big screen. Ben Schwartz is providing the voice for Sonic, and he talks a bit about how they characterized Sonic for the film.

Talking to JoBlo, Schwartz explains, "How I do it is, I read the script and I noticed that it was like—Sonic was written like almost a little kid that's really excited, that's never been allowed to play with other kids, that's never been allowed to go out in the real world, and now he gets this chance and he cannot wait. His synapses are going crazy, he loves it."

Though the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog was kind of weird, you can really see what Schwartz was talking about when it came to the second preview. It's just so fun to see Sonic so active and happy, and you can see his excitement for the world when he's constantly doing different things.

Besides Sonic, a lot of people are looking forward to Jim Carrey playing the role of Dr. Robotnik. We know that Carrey is beloved by every 90s kid for his comedic work, so it would be fun to see what he could bring to the table now that he's coming back to these kinds of films.

Sonic tries to navigate the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound best friend -- a human named Tom Wachowski. They must soon join forces to prevent the evil Dr. Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his powers for world domination.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters this Valentine's Day, Feb. 14.
