After nearly two years, the Space Battleship Yamato remake project is finally getting a new entry, though it will be a bit different than many expected. Recently, the new Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 anime project was announced, and it will be a seven-part anime film series.
Details about the next entry were revealed via the anime’s official website. Along with the new info came the release of an official announcement teaser, as well as the first visual.
Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 Will Be Released as Seven Anime Films
Space Battleship Yamato is an old sci-fi anime. It’s one of the most iconic shows of the 70s, and it was made by the legendary anime director Leiji Matsumoto.
In 2012, the franchise saw a resurgence thanks to the anime series remake, which retold the story of the original anime from the 70s. Following this, more installments in the remake project were released over the decade.
The latest of these projects is Star Blazers 2205, which is a two-part anime film that was released in October 2021 (Part 1) and February 2022 (Part 2).
Now, the next entry in the remake project was revealed, and it will be a follow-up to Star Blazers. You can check out its teaser trailer here:
This new movie is titled Yamato yo, Towa ni: Rebel 3199 (Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 in English). The trailer may not have revealed much footage, but it did show the two main characters of the franchise.
What’s more, the film’s studios were also revealed. Producing this upcoming film series is Studio Mother (of More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers fame) in cooperation with Satelight (Helck, Black Summoner)

Also shared were the film’s staff members. Directing the seven-part film series is Naomichi Yamato, a notable episode director of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Meanwhile, writing duties will be handled by Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC) who will also serve as the supervising director. Co-writing the anime is Hideki Oka who returns from the previous Yamato installment.
Part 1 of the Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 anime films will be released in Japan on July 19, 2024. This first part is titled Kuro no Shinryaku (or Dark Invasion in English).
For now, there’s no word yet on the titles and release dates of the six other parts of the new film project. More info will likely be shared in the coming months.
