We sure hope you pre-ordered Batman #77 because something big happened here and it will change Batman's life forever. It has to. Death in comics has always been temporary or fleeting but that's usually for superheroes; not their loved ones. If you haven't read this comic yet, now's your only chance since we'll be spoiling this story big so go to a comic book store right now and check it out yourself.
SPOILERS FOR BATMAN #77
Bane kills Alfred. Yup. We told you that there were spoilers from here on out.
Robin, after managing to take down Gotham Girl with magic, attempts to put a stop to Bane, despite his warnings to kill Alfred if any member of the Bat-Family interferes. While Damian Wayne is able to beat Gotham Girl, Flashpoint Batman is just too much for him and the son of Batman is soundly beaten. Soon, he is brought to Alfred and, well, Bane snaps his neck.
Now, the medium of comics is known for fooling fans, so there's a huge chance that this might not actually be what we see. Alfred could be near death and Flashpoint Batman aka Thomas Wayne could heal him with magic juice, which he once did with Bruce Wayne after Bane broke his spine (again). Basically, don't believe everything you read. Psycho Pirate is also around so he could be fooling Damian.
Personally, while I love Alfred, killing him would add a lot of stakes to the City of Bane. This could be the big status quo change that writer Tom King was hinting at and it would be cool to see DC keep him dead, though that probably won't be the case. We are getting a new Batman writer after Batman #85, after all.
