Barbie Movie Reveals Jujutsu Kaisen Star as Japanese Dub's Ken

As with many English-language releases, the new Barbie film will get a Japanese dub. Today, Warner Bros. revealed the Barbie movie’s Japanese dub cast, and it features a popular voice actor from Jujutsu Kaisen.

While Japanese voice actors are best known for their anime roles, many of them are also routinely cast for Japanese dubs in movies.

This is also the case with Barbie as the film’s Japanese language version features lots of well-known anime VAs.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sukuna Joins the Barbie Movie’s Japanese Dub Cast

Perhaps the most interesting casting choice for Barbie is Junichi Suwabe, a voice actor who is renowned for his smooth, deep voice that’s distinctive, especially for those who have heard his roles.

Suwabe is currently best known for voicing Ryomen Sukuna, a fearsome villain of Jujutsu Kaisen that is inside Yuji Itadori.

Aside from Sukuna, Suwabe is also known for voicing Archer in Fate/stay night, Yami Sukehiro in Black Clover, and Eraser Head in My Hero Academia.

In the Barbie movie, Suwabe is the voice of Ken. Specifically, he voices the Ken that’s played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. After all, the film features a lot of Kens.

Barbie Movie Reveals Complete Japanese Dub Cast

The Barbie movie’s Japanese dub cast was announced today alongside the release of the dubbed trailer.

For the role of Margot Robbie’s main Barbie, Warner Bros. cast popular actress Mitsuki Takahata.

While Takahata isn’t an anime voice actress, the rest of the main cast is composed of popular VAs that many anime fans are no doubt familiar with.

Here is the list of the main cast members, though instead of their character names, the list features the actors (as they’re almost all named Barbie and Ken) along with their respective Japanese VAs:

• Ryan Gosling - Shunsuke Takeuchi (Einar in Vinland Saga)
• Kate McKinnon - Romi Park (Hange Zoe in Attack on Titan)
• Simu Liu - Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
• Issa Rae - Mitsuki Saiga (Rossiu Adai in Gurren Lagann)
• Alexandra Shipp - Miyuki Sawashiro (Celty Sturluson in Durarara)
• Scott Evans - Ryotaro Okiayu (Byakuya Kuchiki in Bleach)
• Kingsley Ben-Adir - Junichi Suwabe (Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen)
• Emma Mackey - Maaya Sakamoto (Echidna in Re:Zero)
• Michael Cera - Hiro Shimono (Zenitsu Agatsuma in Demon Slayer)
• Ariana Greenblatt - Saori Hayami (Yor Forger in Spy x Family)
• America Ferrera - Takako Honda (Touko Aozaki in The Garden of Sinners)

While the new Barbie movie will be released in the US on July 21, the film’s Japanese dub will be released on August 11, 2023.
