Bae Suzy Praised for Playing Dual Role in Anna

Coupang Play’s Anna is Bae Suzy’s comeback to the small screen, 2 years after she headlined the smash hit Kdrama Start-Up.

The six-part episode series follows the story of a woman who puts her life in jeopardy.

Lee Yoo Mi, played by Bae Suzy, is a woman who works for a wealthy family and struggles to make ends meet.

The Kdrama also illustrates how she manages her psychological disorder known as Ripley’s syndrome. It is a disorder that often confuses one’s self as another person, and in her case, her alter ego is Anna.

Helmed by Lee Joo Young who also directed films like On the Other Side of You and A Single Rider, Anna also depicts Bae Suzy’s versatility as an actress and showed her different side.

In a report cited by Korea Joongang Daily, the Hallyu star saw a great opportunity after she was offered to play the mysterious and dark character in Anna.

She expressed how eager she is to get the part and shared, “I felt a weird sense of confidence that I could play this role really well,” she said adding, “I had to have it. I didn’t want to lose it to someone else.”

As the thriller drama reached its second half, Bae Suzy received massive praise from the viewers, pointing out how she nailed playing Lee Yoo Mi and Anna.

“It all seems too good to be true,” she said. “I don’t know if I actually did do well, but this is the first time that I have gotten this many compliments.”

Interestingly, besides the upcoming extended version of Anna, Bae Suzy will also headline the webtoon-based Kdrama The Girl Downstairs.

Helmed by Criminal Minds, Romance Is a Bonus Book, and Crash Landing on You director Lee Jeong Hyo, the singer-actress will be joined by Yang Se Jong from Doctor Romantic.
