Avengers: Infinity War Screenwriters Almost Sent Falcon To Space Instead Of Spider-Man

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War

Spider-Man (Tom Holland) might have had one of the most heart-breaking scenes in the desolate planet of Titan in Avengers: Infinity War, but in an alternate universe, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) would have been the one who'd gone to space, not Marvel's web-slinger.

Avengers: Infinity War screenwriters Stephen Markus and Christopher McFeely just recently spoke with Yahoo! about the evolution of the film's script. During their discussion, the scriptwriters revealed that at one point they actually sent Falcon to Titan with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) instead of Spidey.

"There was one [version] where Spider-Man did not go to space, and where Falcon went to space. And it was fun, it was interesting, it's always great to have those guys in various situations and there was a lot to do with them in both situations, but we weren't getting as much emotion as we could if we brought them back to people who know them," Markus said.

It might not make sense for Sam to be hanging out with Tony in Infinity War considering the events of Captain America: Civil War, but during the early stages of the writing process, the scriptwriters also considered having Tony and Steve (Chris Evans) reunite before the Avengers learn about Thanos.

Thankfully Markus and McFeely decided against Falcon, sending Spidey to space in his place. Spidey's memorable death scene with Tony wouldn't have been possible if he had been stuck on earth.

The screenwriters also made a great decision keeping Iron Man and Captain America away from each other in Infinity War. Tony and Steve's reunion in Avengers 4 is going to be even more dramatic now that Thanos has decimated half of the universe. We wonder how emotional things are going to get when Tony and Steve finally meet.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
