Avengers: Infinity War Gets Rare Extension On Its Chinese Release

It looks like the Chinese movie market's been really taken in by Avengers: Infinity War because the film's getting a rare extension of its theatrical release in the country.

With a population of more than 1.4 billion, China has one of the biggest international box office markets, one that Hollywood eyes with every release. However, despite its potential, the country usually limits the length of Hollywood film releases so that home-grown movies don't find themselves too overcrowded by foreign films.

But not with Avengers: Infinity War. According to a new report by Deadline, the very first film in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie has just been given a 30-day extension of its time in Chinese cinemas. Marvel's original release deal with the country had Infinity War set to leave cinemas this weekend. Now, the film will continue to screen in the East Asian country until July 9.

Currently sitting on the thrown with a haul of $360 million from the Chinese box office, analysts expect the film to gain another $10 million over the weekend. Now, with the film's extended theatrical run, the chances of Infinity War reaching $400 million or more in China seems pretty high. We wonder whether it'll be able to help the film move past Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the third top-grossing Hollywood movie of all time.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently screening in cinemas.
