Avengers: Infinity War Directors On Why Thanos Beat Down Hulk

Avengers: Infinity War opened with a lot of pretty intense sequences. Not only did Thanos murder most of the Asgardians escaping to earth along with Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) during the opening arc of the film, but he also beat down Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in one of the biggest fights in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking with fans during a Question and Answer session that followed Collider's special Avengers: Infinity War screening last week (via ComicBook.com), the film's directors Joe and Anthony Russo addressed questions about the film. This included questions about Thanos' showdown with Hulk. Did the Mad Titan really beat Hulk because he was naturally stronger than Marvel's favorite green guy, or was it because he had the Power Stone with him?

It turns out it was all Thanos.

"I would say that he's just that powerful," Joe told fans during the Q and A. "You didn't see him actively use the Power Stone in the fight. I think ultimately the way we looked at that fight and the way we talked about it with our stunt team when we were executing it was Hulk is obviously very powerful but he's a little mindless in his fighting style. It's aggressive. It's pummeling. Thanos is the Genghis Khan of the universe. He's a very skilled fighter and equally as strong. So when you put those two up against each other, the more skilled fighter is going to win. Which is why Hulk has a moment where he overpowers Thanos, but ultimately Thanos is smarter."

Fans might have already known that Thanos had the upper hand during the fight with his strength and his intelligence, but this seals the deal. The Mad Titan doesn't have sheer power, he also has the skill, making the Mad Titan the "Genghis Khan of the universe."

Honestly, it's hard to imagine Thanos collecting all six of the Infinity Stones if he didn't have the power, strength, or intelligence to do so.

Now, with Avengers 4 on the way, we can't help but wait and see whether Hulk gets another shot at whipping Thanos ass. We also can't wait and see whether the Avengers manage to go back in time and undo the massacre the Mad Titan inflicted in Infinity War.

Avengers 4 hits cinemas May 3, 2019.
