Avengers: Infinity War Director Defend Star-Lord's Emotional Mistake

People still can't get over Peter Quill making a huge mistake in Avengers: Infinity War. However, directors Joe and Anthony Russo want fans to understand Star-Lord's emotional state during the tragic scene that took place in Titan.

It may have been a difficult task but the unusual team that ended up in Titan almost managed to remove Thanos' Gauntlet in Infinity War. Unfortunately, Quill decided to taunt the Mad Titan and somehow discovered that he had killed Gamora to procure the Soul Stone. The furious Star-Lord tries to attack Thanos and somehow allows him to escape Mantis' control.

Although the scene caused people to hate on Quill for the disastrous bad move, Joe Russo told ComicBook.com that people should try to understand Star-Lord's emotional state.

"He's lost a lot of people in his life. He was kidnapped by pirates when he was 10 years old, raised by pirates, lost his mother, had to kill his father, and in the movie, the love of his life is taken from him. So if you can't understand someone making a human choice like that, I don't know if you understand humanity very well. But he is a flawed character, and that's what's so compelling about him."

Anthony Russo was quick to back his brother's statement about Star-Lord. "That moment is very emotionally truthful and I think that's why we bought it in the moment and that's why we loved it as a storytelling point because it made him so vulnerable," he said.

Fans might not forgive Star-Lord too easily. After all, his rash decision led to the Avengers' defeat in InfinityWar. Hopefully, Quill will manage to redeem himself in Avengers 4, if he does come back from dust form.

Avengers: Infinity War will be available on Blu-Ray on August 14.
