Avengers: Infinity War Almost Featured Another Thor Character

Of all the characters in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor seemed to have the most emotional arc. The God of Thunder had just destroyed his home Asgard to save his people from Hela, only to have half of them killed by Thanos, with his brother Loki among the casualties. After meeting the Guardians and teaming up with Rocket and Groot, Thor was able to make Stormbreaker and proved to be more than a match for Thanos.

It turns out that his quest was almost completely different, as The Russo Brothers were trying to find the perfect arc for Thor. During an interview with Cinemablend, it was revealed that they considered having the God of Thunder meet another Asgardian that fans of the comics will recognize.

Apparently, he was going to meet the ghost of his grandfather at one point. His name is Bor Borison, the father of Odin and someone who has actually appeared in some comics before.

"We explored a lot of different ideas of where Thor could go for that weapon. We even had versions of the story at one time where he was going to visit this sort of ghost of his dead grandfather - which was one version we were playing with that we didn't end up using. I am happy where we had settled."

Fans who have read Thor #600 know that the God of Thunder was forced to kill Bor, who was resurrected by Loki but put in a fit of rage and would attack anyone he saw. Placed in New York, Thor did his best to stop him and even had help from Norman Osborn's Avengers, though he was soon able to put him down. At the time, this costs him his Asgardian citizenship but things were fixed after Siege.

This would have been neat for fans but it seems like The Russos chose the better option. It gave Thor's quest some urgency, gave Peter Dinklage a cool role, and made for one heck of an impact in the film's climax, even if it was all for naught.

Avengers 4 is slated to hit theaters on May 3, 2019. Will it fix what happened in Infinity War? Could it be Thor's last movie? Let us know in the comments below.
