Avengers: Endgame’s Thor Blames Himself For The Decimation

Most Marvel fans might be blaming Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) for Thanos' (Josh Brolin) successful Decimation in Avengers: Infinity War, but Thor (Chris Hemsworth) blames himself. Heading into Avengers: Endgame, Marvel's Asgardian God of Thunder blames himself, knowing that he came so close to killing the Mad Titan before he could turn half of the living population into dust with a single snap of his fingers.

Speaking in an interview with Empire,Avengers: Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely says that Thor "is not blaming anybody but himself" in the aftermath of the decimation. Thor is still carrying the burden of his mistakes, and it shows in his demeanour in most of the Endgame's promotional videos.

"He does have a lot of guilt," McFeely added.

It isn't difficult to understand why. Thor let Thanos slip past his fingers. Not only did this allow the man who killed his brother and his people to escape, but it also resulted in the deaths of so many, many, many others.

Endgame is going to start on a dark note, something which the writer admits.

"I don't want to say it's a laugh riot. It comes from a darker place," McFeely told the publication.

It might seem strange seeing a Marvel film with less levity, but littering too many quips in what ought to be a somber movie would definitely seem strange. There might be a few jokes here and there, but Endgame's general tone is going to understandably darker than what Marvel fans are used to.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
