Avengers: Endgame Writers Have Poor Excuse for Captain America Thor Hammer Plot Hole

Avengers: Endgame might have been the largest and most successful Marvel comic book movie of the year, but the film still had its issues. One of the problems Marvel fans had with Endgame was the plothole the film created with Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) hammer, Mjolnir.

Before Endgame, in Thor: Ragnarok, fans get to hear Odin telling Thor that his hammer isn't really responsible for summoning lightning. In fact, we get to see the son of Odin using lightning even without his hammer in the film. However, in Endgame, Captain America (Chris Evans) manages to possess the power of Thor after being deemed worthy to lift Mjolnir. He summons lighting through the hammer in his fight against Thanos ( Josh Brolin). It might have been an epic scene to watch in cinemas, but this worthy Captain America eventually created a plot hole in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, speaking in an interview with CBM,Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely try to address the plothole.

"There was certainly a debate at one point because particularly in Ragnarok, it establishes that Thor can summon the lightning without the hammer," Markus told the publication, "I think Odin even says, 'It was never the hammer.' And yet Cap summons the lightning with the hammer. You get to those things and you're like, 'It's too awesome not to do it! We'll talk about it later.'"

We understand that it's an epic scene, but maybe filmmakers ought to have prioritized the narrative instead of focusing on the cool sequence. What's the use of a cool scene if it doesn't really fit in the larger lore of the MCU?
