Avengers: Endgame Writer Wants DCEU Superman To Take Notes From Captain America

Superman might traditionally be earnest and benevolent, but the DC Extended Universe's version of the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) has found himself a legion of fans despite his self-seriousness. The DCEU began with a darker tone, and Zack Snyder decided to give Superman a bit more gravitas in films like The Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Still, while some believe that the "Boy Scout" qualities of Superman can't really work in these modern times, Avengers: Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely likes to think that Marvel's Captain America (Chris Evans) proves otherwise.

"I certainly think Captain America shows that are certainly ways to do a really good Superman movie in this day. You don't have to dirty him up, you don't have to get rid of his earnestness," the writer explained in an interview with Screen Rant, "The Christopher Reeve Superman is one of my favorite movies and so, that's one we certainly borrow from all the time."

In some way, McFeely might be right, but the DCEU has already set its path, at least with Superman. Right now, we're not quite sure whether the Son of Krypton is going to reappear in the franchise seeing how Warner Brothers is so busy with other superhero films like Wonder Woman 2 and Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) – especially with Cavill working on Netflix's The Witcher series.

Still, we definitely want to see Cavill in his Superman suit again. The actor makes such a fitting Man of Steel.

Birds of Prey is set for release on February 7, 2020.
