Avengers: Endgame Writer Reveal Scene Explaining The Love Between Black Widow And Hawkeye

Black Widow's (Scarlett Johansson) death in Avengers: Endgame was heartbreaking, especially since it was made right in front of Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), one of Natasha's closest and deepest friends.

Now, fans are learning that the film was actually supposed to have a scene showing just how loving the platonic relationship between the two actually is. Speaking in an interview with the The Los Angeles Times, Endgame screenwriter Stephen McFeely decided to open up about some of the movie's deleted scenes, and that includes this shared scene between Natasha and Clint.

"There was a scene between Natasha and Clint Barton en route to Vormir, so they leave Morag, and then they basically just have a long conversation while the Quinjet is on autopilot," McFeely told the publication.

According to the writer, he and Christopher Markus thought that they needed to have a conversation between the two to remind fans that they shared a relationship together and loved one another so that Natasha's death in Vormir would hit harder.

"We thought we needed it because it was gonna remind you that they shared a relationship, meaning that they loved each other, which is of course a prerequisite for what's gonna happen on Vormir," McFeely explained, "It needed to have that relationship in order for the Soul Stone to be gotten. It turns out you do not need that, because you've watched all the movies, and you know they love each other. And they're great actors, so it takes two lines and not an entire scene."

Casual fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not have understood their relationship, but those who have been following the franchise know very well just what kind of relationship Black Widow and Hawkeye have. Natasha's death was in every way devastating for everyone.

Luckily, fans are going to see the super agent again when she stars in her own film, Black Widow.

Black Widow premieres May 1, 2019.
