Avengers: Endgame Scribe Confirms Captain America Interacted With 'Old Steve'

One of the things that truly pleased fans about Avengers: Endgame was that Steve Rogers decided to finally do what he has always wanted to do: stay with Peggy Carter and live a long happy life with his first love. On the other hand, Steve's decision also led to more questions about how time travel works. For instance, did Old Steve get to interact with the other version of himself that remained on ice? Writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely believe that the two Captain Americas may have seen each other at some point in the past.

The Endgame writers had been in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con where they answered several fan questions (via Screenrant). Not surprisingly, they were asked if they was any chance that Old Steve was in the same place as the Other Steve. Markus claims it's possible, especially if you watch Captain America: Civil War.

"I would like to believe that through some sort of bulls--t time loop paradox--throw in the words you use when you're bulls--tting science in a movie: 'some sort of quantum paradox'--that there are indeed two Captain Americas in the MCU timeline. That Steve Rogers who looped back into time has therefore always been there, and that he is living somewhere else in the movies you're watching," he said.

This is when Markus got very specific:

"And what I really like to believe is that there's an old man sitting in back at Peggy's funeral in Civil War, and that's old Steve Rogers, watching young Steve Rogers, carry old Steve Rogers's wife up to the front of the church. Can I explain it scientifically? Not really, no," he said.

Come to think of it, some fans have pointed out that there was an older man with white hair who served as one of Peggy's pallbearers and he seemed pretty strong for an old man. If this is the case, then both Steves actually carried Peggy's coffin at the funeral.
