Avengers: Endgame Projected to Have Close to $1 Billion Opening

As the culmination to the 10-year legacy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame is expected to break box office records. The current projection is at $800 million, but it is believed that it can rake in $100 million more.

Forbes believes that the highly-anticipated film is going to exceed expectations. With the press tour officially launching today, marketing is about to boost the hype surrounding the film, so the anticipation is going to get crazier from here.

For starters, Avengers: Endgame has no stiff competition. As an event film that is going to mark drastic changes to the MCU with anticipation to learn which superheroes live and die, this movie already has a serious hook.

In addition, people would like to experience the film with fresh eyes, so they will do their best to watch opening night to avoid leaks and spoilers that will inevitably land on the internet.

The boost, however, will come from the result of the opening weekend as well as the word of mouth from opening night. If Avengers: Endgame gets positive reviews and high ratings, word will spread like wildfire online, that's for sure. As a result, other viewers will be compelled to get to the theaters as soon as possible.

For their estimate, Forbes looked into the history of projects for the most recent MCU releases and the trend that they make higher than tracking estimates. Captain Marvel was expected to gross $100-120 million domestically but ended up netting 28 percent more at $153.4 million. The global opening at a whopping $456.7 million made the movie the sixth biggest worldwide opening ever.

Initial tracking projections were also lower in Avengers: Infinity War. The expected $225 million international gross opening was much higher at $257.7 million, which is 11 percent more. Globally, it hauled $383 million for a total of $640.5 million.

With Avengers: Endgame crashing ticket sites due to the overwhelming demand and the unheard of anticipation to that Infinity War cliffhanger, it is safe to assume that the projections will be surpassed.

Forbes thinks that even with just 10 percent more than the current estimates, you're looking at a $275 million domestic opening and at least $170 million from China alone. However, if China's numbers match or surpass Infinity War, by say, $30 million, which is totally possible, then you're already looking at $850 million international gross. Forbes believes that if the film can pull off $280 million domestic gross plus $200 million from China alone combined with $410 million from international territories, you're looking at almost $900 million.
