Avengers: Endgame Now $25 Million Short Of Passing Avatar

It looks like Avengers: Endgame is inching closer to toppling Avatar's record as the highest grossing film of all time in cinema.

Last weekend, Marvel Studios decided to rerelease the second entry in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie in an effort to beat Avatar's box office record. Sure, Avengers: Endgame might have managed to rake in a whopping $2.75 billion during its original release, but Avatar still had an all-time total of $2.788 billion worldwide – a number that the film earned after the second release in cinemas.

Dangling a carrot over fans' heads, Marvel decided to rerelease Endgame with seven minutes of extra footage, teasing the fanbase with deleted scenes and post-credits sequences. Thanks to the film's second release, Endgame is now $2.765 billion at the worldwide box office, making the film $25 million shy of Avatar's grand total.

Sure, Marvel might be hoping that another weekend might actually hit the mark, however, the lukewarm reception of the rerelease has analysts believing that the film might not get to pass Avatar after all.

Marvel fans were largely disappointed when they visited cinemas last weekend to see the Endgame rerelease only to find themselves greeted by an unfinished Hulk sequence and a couple of Spider-Man Far From Home post-credits sequences in the film. Given the backlash, we're not quite sure that the next weekend of the rerelease might turn out that good either. Maybe if Marvel Studios tries to package a proper rerelease with proper footage, maybe that might get fans to return to cinemas.

Let's see whether Endgame manages to pass that $25 million mark.
