Avengers: Endgame Just $15.5 Million Shy Of Avatar’s Box Office Total

It looks like Avengers: Endgame is coming closer and closer to beating Avatar's record as the highest grossing film in the history of cinema.

According to Box Office Mojo, Marvel's epic comic book movie has finally reached $2.7725 billion at the global box office, making endgame only $15.5 million short of Avatar and its $2.788 billion haul. The film managed to reach this mark after seeing a rerelease in cinemas – Marvel decided to screen the film in theatres again in an attempt to unseat Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time.

Tempting fans back to the cinemas, Marvel also promised extra footage in the rerelease, saying that viewers would get to see deleted scenes and post-credits sequences during the second theatrical run of the movie.

Marvel simply wanted to level the playing field with Avatar. The science fiction epic also saw a rerelease with additional footage back in 2009, so Marvel must have thought that it would be only fair to do the same thing for the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.

Unfortunately, for Marvel, fans weren't too pleased with the extra footage it offered in the rerelease of Endgame. The deleted scene that the studio promised turned out to be nothing more than an inconsequential scene of Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) trying to rescue people from a fire. What's even worse is that the CGI in the sequence was largely unfinished.

Hopefully, fans still find time to support Endgame despite the feeling of disappointment over the "extra footage" in the film's rerelease.
