We all have questions about what happened in Avengers: Endgame, like what did Steve Rogers do after he decided not to go back in time. But is there any chance he actually faced Red Skull when he went back to Vormir to return the Soul Stone? The writers and directors of Endgame weighed in on the possibility in the film's home release.
The commentary track for the Endgame home release reveals that the Russo brothers wondered about the exact same thing. Anthony Russo asks writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely if Captain America actually meets Red Skull on his visit to Vormir.
"He would have to," McFeely says, to which Markus admitted he had wondered about the meeting "many times." The writers then discuss how Red Skull would still be trapped on Vormir although the Soul Stone is gone. Markus says that it might still come back while McFeely believes that the villain might have a different fate. However, Russo wrapped up the discussion by saying that "it's fun to think about."
We might not be sure what would happen if Cap encounters Red Skull on the strange planet but there is little doubt that it won't be a pleasant situation. After all, the two had a truly memorable fight in Captain America: The First Avenger. Either way, it's an interesting scene that we can all wonder about.
Avengers: Endgame is currently available on digital. The Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray are set to be released on August 13.
