Avengers: Endgame had Two Other Possible Titles

Last Friday finally saw the teaser drop for Avengers 4, and we also have the official title of the film—Endgame. As it turns out, the title change in the movie was a last-minute decision, and there were actually three potential titles being juggled around.

This comes from insider Daniel R:

Endgame was probably the last title on everyone's mind, but there had also been hints at the other two titles over the past months. Zoe Saldana had dropped during an interview that she was working on Gauntlet with the others, and Jeremy Renner was said to have made sure that Annihilation was the title.

There were even some reporters that had been told by the Russo Brothers themselves that Endgame won't be the title, but it looks like either they were outright lying during the interview or that someone else above their heads went and changed it without them knowing.

Though Endgame doesn't seem like it fits with other epic titles like Age of Ultron and Infinity Gauntlet, I think it's very fitting given the context of the last film. Plus in chess, "endgame" means the final stage where there are only a few pieces left on the board—that's basically where we are at the start of the film.

We're more likely to get a full trailer sometime next year, but I think the teaser released is good enough to get everyone hyped for what's in store. Things are looking pretty grim, and I can't wait for everything to come in place when the movie releases.

Avengers: Endgame comes out April 24, 2019.
