Avengers: Endgame Directors Try to Justify Three-Hour Running Time

You guys better go to the bathroom early because Avengers: Endgame will reportedly be three hours. Most long movies run at two hours and 30 minutes or, at the most, two hours and 45 minutes, so seeing Endgame go the full three hours has everyone's attention. Not a lot of films go the full three hours, one of the more well-known being Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, so seeing Marvel go all in for that is crazy.

During an interview with Total Film (via CBR), The Russo Brothers attempted to explain why this movie is three hours. To be fair, this is the culmination of a decade's worth of storytelling so no one minds giving these guys all the time they need. Still, it's admirable reading their explanation and fans should enjoy what they have to say.

Here is the full answer:

"Joe and I like very propulsive storytelling. We like to keep it tight and focused, and to give the audience a thrill ride. But this movie… you know, no one's been pushing us to cut the film. We usually are; we're primarily pushing ourselves. The number of characters, the scope of the story, the fact that it was a conclusion. It's just that everything lined up [so] that it was going to be a difficult story to tell. Meaning that it would require a lot of screen time to tell it properly."

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26.
