Avengers 2012 BTS Photos of Thanos Before They Decided to Make Him CGI

Marvel Studios decided to make Thanos fully CGI for the films, and so far he's considered a technical Marvel. What's interesting is, Thanos was originally in a practical costume when he was teased in the first Avengers film, and Ironhead Studio has shared some interesting BTS shots.

Before Josh Brolin was brought onboard, the part was actually played by actor/stuntman Damion Poitier. We don't really know how long he was supposed to be in the role, but seeing as his Thanos didn't even speak in his appearance, Marvel was probably sure that they didn't need to cast someone to play Thanos immediately.

I have to say, the practical look for Thanos is actually pretty impressive, and the make-up looks really good. If anything, the CGI Thanos probably only wins because I think it's necessary for the character to be physically imposing. I can't imagine this Thanos beating the crap out of the Hulk as he did in Infinity War. If anything, his head also looks kind of large for his body, but maybe that's just because I'm so used to CG Thanos.

After 10 years, the Avengers had finally gone against Thanos and have beat him once and for all. We don't really know if Marvel has any plans to bring him back. The best we have is some concept art from Eternals showcasing a young Thanos, but that's not really any confirmation that he'll be back onscreen anytime soon.

Josh Brolin did some amazing work with the character, and Thanos will definitely go down as one of the most memorable villains in cinema.

The next MCU film set to come out is Black Widow, and it hits theaters May 1, 2020.
