Avatar: The Way of Water Box Office To Surpass Spider-Man: No Way Home

There is no doubt that Avatar: The Way of Water has time and time again proven to be successful, as it not only nearing $2 Billion at the box office, which earned its theatrical run extension in domestic screens and in China (despite being on its fourth weekend already), but also surpassed Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick at the highest grossing film of all time. As of writing, the Avatar sequel is also soon to top Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

According to a report by Deadline, Avatar: The Way of Water continues to go strong upon reaching its fifth weekend in theaters. Avatar 2 will also soon be surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $1.9 Billion at its box office back in 2021. The more Avatar: The Way of Water becomes apparent in keeping its record past its initial theatrical run length, the more the Avatar sequel is likely to surpass more films at the All-Time Highest Grossing Films list.

Given that one of the biggest Marvel films, No Way Home, had not only brought together the classic Spider-Man villains, but even Raimi’s Tobey Maguire and Sony’s Andrew Garfield on screen, Avatar 2 passing this record is considered a pretty huge deal, further proving how Cameron could easily thrash the superhero franchise.

Recently, Cameron threw shade on Marvel and DC sequels of “not matching up” to the potential he had brought with his Avatar franchise. To expound, the Avatar creator reiterated that Marvel and DC villains are “no match” to the more “realistic” and humanized version of what he will bring to the table. Apparently, in Avatar 3, Pandora will be introducing the opposite Na’vis we have met thus far. Fire-wielders, at that. For more information, you can check out more details about it here.

Avatar: The Way of Water is still showing in cinemas worldwide.
