Avatar Star Expects Sequel to Take Down Avengers: Endgame at Box Office

Marvel might have kicked Avatar off of its pedestal as the highest-grossing film of all time when Avengers: Endgame completed its theatrical release last year, but Avatar 2 star Stephen Lang believes that the sequel to James Cameron's science-fiction epic is going to make its way back to top soon.

Speaking in an interview with The National, Lang was asked whether or not Avatar 2 could take back the title that Endgame had stolen from Cameron's first Avatar movie.

"I expect so," Lang told the publication.

Avatar 2 may do well at the box office, but it won't be that easy. To beat Endgame, Avatar would have to gross more than $2.79 billion at the box office when it premieres in December next year. Sure, Avatar might have taken the top place on the charts for more than a decade, but we're not really sure how a sequel would fare. It's been about eleven years since Avatar released in 2009. The major gap between films may not do Avatar 2 so well.

We'll just have to cross our fingers and see. Though there haven't been too many details about the upcoming Avatar sequel, Lang's little chat with The National reveals how much Colonel Miles Quaritch has grown since the first movie – the actor is still discovering how exactly the character evolves in the Avatar sequels.

Lang is set to join Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, and CCH Pounder in Avatar 2.
