Avatar: The Way of Water Box Office Reportedly Secures Sequels

Before the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, James Cameron already had his personal prediction that the sequel is bound to make another box office record. Although it goes along with his worries to break even with his $250 million budget, Avatar 2 should beat his predecessor film, it is now safe to say that his plans for a continuous Avatar franchise will continue on.

According to a newly released report by Matthew Belloni of Puck News, the ongoing box office success of Avatar: The Way of Water has guaranteed the future of Avatars 3, 4, and 5 coming alive on our screens. The Avatar sequel reportedly surpassed $1.4 billion box-office earnings, which is the upheld standard for Walt Disney Company to consider it a success.

Cameron previously teased that the Avatar 3 will consist of a “darker side” of the Na’vi, in which the antagonistic Na’vis are called the “Ash people.” Although he initially had no idea yet on whether or not he would be able to continue the franchise, he should be feeling pretty fortunate by now that we will see more Pandora regions as he promised.

So far, we know that Avatar 3 will be released next year, on December 20, 2024, after multiple delays caused by the pandemic. Cameron and even Spider actor Jack Champion reiterate that we will be seeing more Pandora regions, and as Champion worded it, “Collectively, it gets better each time.” As for Avatar 4 and 5, we will be seeing the Na’vi, specifically Zoe Saldana’s Neytiri leaving Pandora to see the earth.

It is satisfying to hear that the long-awaited Avatar franchise is now slowly coming back on track. You can check out more details here. While we have yet to hear more plans on the future Avatar sequences, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on this story here on EpicStream.
