Attack on Titan Creator Wants the Series to Have a Light Ending, Compares it to Guardians of the Galaxy

Attackon Titan seems to be ending soon and fans are probably excited and sad about that. It might have gone off the rails a bit midway through but it managed to pick up the pace and get a lot better, which a lot of fans appreciated. Creepy, action-packed, and somewhat convoluted, the show and manga are proof that the medium can break new ground, even if it does follow some tropes.

Considering how bleak the show and manga are, most of us are expecting a fairly dark ending for the characters. However, Hajime Isayama revealed that he might make a lighter end for the series and it could be similar to something like Guardians of the Galaxy. Considering how different both franchises are from one another, this is going to be very surprising to some.

Originally, he wanted the ending to be dark and ominous, like Stephen King's The Mist. However, he changed his mind and wants to make the ending lighter like a Marvel film, and Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most fun films in the franchise.

"At first I explored emulating The Mist, but now you could say that I'm moving in a more peaceful direction, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm not talking about whether Shingeki noKyojin [Attack on Titan] will have a good or bad ending - I only speak of my own attitude as the creator, as well as differences in my methods of ensuring that the readers enjoy the series."

However, Isayama pointed out that he isn't going to say if it will be a happy or sad ending. It's all up to him and he won't be spoiling it in an interview for Bessatsu Shonen Magazine (via Fuku Shuu).

Attackon Titan can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
