Artist Jim Lee Celebrates Release of HBO's Watchmen with New Drawing

HBO has just released their first episode of Watchmen last Sunday, and everyone has been raving about Damon Lindelof's new take. Legendary comic artist Jim Lee apparently wanted to celebrate the release with a drawing of the Watchmen from the comics, and you can check it out here:

Though the story now takes place in an alternate 2019, a lot of the original characters from the comics are still present in the series. We know that Comedian and Rorschach can't come back since they're dead, but the series still has Ozymandias, Silk Spectre (Laurie Blake), and, as teased by the trailers, Doctor Manhattan.

HBO even released some supplementary materials that kind of reveals that Dan Dreiberg (Nite Owl) is currently locked up after his arrest in the 90s along with Laurie who had assumed a new superhero identity, The Comedienne.

Though Walter Kovacs has died, he still kind of has a major presence with the Seventh Kavalry a.k.a. the Rorschach cult. It's kind of like the Joker gang from Batman Beyond.

With the original Watchmen being a hot take on the political climate at the time, I'm very interested to see how Damon Lindelof's show is going to address the climate of 2019. If anything, he's also made for some interesting world-building, really leaning into the alternate history of the US, what with the presence of superheroes.
