Ever since Ben Affleck's future in the DC Extended Universe started coming into doubt, fans began naming alternative actors for the role, and one of the most popular names thrown into the ring was Armie Hammer's.
Not only did the Man from U.N.C.L.E. have the perfect physique to become the DCEU's next Dark Knight, but he had experience playing roles in action movies too, giving him an advantage in action-heavy comic book projects. Not only that, but Hammer was originally cast as Batman in George Miller's canceled Justice League Mortal.
While Hammer recently confirmed that he would love to take on the cowl, the problem was that he was never really offered the part in the first place.
"Yeah, that's the problem: I've never been approached, but if I was, I would jump at the opportunity," Hammer said in an interview with the USA Today, responding to the question regarding the possibility of playing Batman. "You can only say 'no' or 'yes' to projects you're offered."
Of course, Warner Brothers may still be looking to cast the role. The Batman's production has yet to begin. We just recently learned today that the film is set for principal photography sometime in December this year, and while the production listing didn't specify a date, it did say sometime "early December."
There isn't that much word about The Batman, though many reports say that the film will focus on a Bruce Wayne much younger than Ben Affleck.
The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
