Are Shoto Todoroki and Dabi Brothers in My Hero Academia Explained
Dabi is one of the supporting antagonists of My Hero Academia. Affiliated with the League of Villains, he was also a part of Vanguard Action Squad before. He was the primary antagonist in the Forest Training Camp and Pro Hero arcs.
His real name is Toya Todoroki, which makes him an older brother of Shoto Todoroki. Just like Shoto, Dabi hated his father. Endeavor or Enji Todoroki convinced his son that he would be the one who will surpass All Might. All Dabi’s life, he trained and became obsessed with the goal of his father who eventually left him to focus on Shoto, who Endeavor believed has the most potential to surpass All Might.
The abandonment left Dabi to undergo an existential crisis, eventually losing control of his fire and sanity. He burned a large part of his body and faked his death before turning into a criminal who wanted to ruin the reputation of Endeavor.
Dabi and Shoto have an ambiguous relationship. Shoto does not remember his brother that much even if Dabi attempted to attack Shoto when he was a baby. Dabi thinks of Shoto as his father’s puppet and rival to achieve his goal, hence he feels angry towards his brother. He originally wanted to kill his younger brother as he doesn’t view Shoto as human, rather Endeavor’s masterpiece or puppet. Adding to this, Dabi was jealous of Shoto for inheriting his mother’s quirk.
