Aquaman's James Wan Wanted to Make a Batman Horror Movie

Despite working on an action film like Aquaman, we know that director James Wan is also very prolific with the horror genre. As it turns out, he wanted to bring a new twist to Batman if he was ever given the chance to helm a movie.

Talking to Heroic Hollywood, Wan explained:

"In the past, like most people, I loved the idea of directing Batman, but a horror version of Batman. That would be a potential fantasy of mine, but I feel like he's been done quite a fair bit. But, I do love the idea of doing an outright scary Batman. I feel like that'd be really cool."

For now, it seems that Batman has found a somewhat uneven tone with the DCEU. He was a stone-cold badass in Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, but he was suddenly all quippy when it came to Joss Whedon's Justice League. For now, we don't know how director Matt Reeves is planning to approach the character, but rumor has it that he wants it to be a prequel with a younger actor playing the role of the Dark Knight.

With an experimental film like Joker in the works with DC, a horror type Batman movie seems a lot more likely when you think about it. If Wan really wanted to, maybe he can make an adaptation of Batman: Crimson Mist. No animated movie has done it yet, and I think Wan would have an interesting take when it comes to a vampire Batman who feeds on his villains.

Catch Aquaman in theaters Dec. 21.
