There's no doubt that Warner Bros. struck gold with Aquaman which gave the DC Extended Universe its first billion at the box office. Now, thanks to the original film's critical and commercial triumph, it looks like director James Wan has been given free rein over the sequel which is reported to be incorporating some serious horror vibes. Not only that, but actor Jason Momoa previously teased that he's been given more creative input over Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Speaking with Fandango, the Game of Thrones alumnus teased an even bigger film than its predecessor and said that the stakes will be higher for Arthur Curry who is now ruling Atlantis as its king. Intriguingly, Momoa also said that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be more comedic than the first film.

Jason explains: "We all learned something on the first one. It's exciting because I haven't made too many sequels. I just know that it's, even on the page, it's absolutely wonderful. There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher. There's a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it. There's a lot of fun, and definitely the action's [bigger]."

I'm not entirely sure what Wan's plan for the sequel will be but I have complete faith that he'll once again deliver. Now, whether it's true that Aquaman 2 will feature more comedy, I certainly hope that they won't go overboard with it because in my opinion, the first one already had the right balance of comedy, action, and seriousness. I mean, sure, the DCEU has had a bad reputation of being a little too "dark" but it shouldn't mean that the franchise's future offerings should follow the MCU's route.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit cinemas in December 2022.
