Aquaman Star Amber Heard Claims Johnny Depp Paid 'Hush Money' For False Allegations

It looks like the legal drama between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp is far from over. The Aquaman actress is now asking for evidence on "hush money" that the Pirates of the Caribbean star had paid to his employees so they could make false allegations against her.

A report from Deadline confirms that Depp has finally settled a $50 million malpractice suit against his former lawyers. Interestingly, it comes just in time for the $50 million defamation suit between the actor and his ex-wife. In turn, Heard's legal team is asking for documents that would reveal "payments on Mr. Depp's behalf to conceal acts of violence," "drug and alcohol abuse" and "Incidents of violence by Mr. Depp."

The move strongly suggests that Depp had actually paid his own employees to stay quiet about the truth between him and Heard.

"Of particular relevance here, by its own account, TMG was aware that Mr. Depp had violently abused Ms. Heard and that he had pressured his employees to make false public statements denying this fact," the filing read.

Depp and Heard met while working on The Rum Diary back in 2011 and the couple married in 2015. After a messy divorce in 2017, Depp filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife following an op-ed where she wrote about being a victim of domestic abuse. The trial is expected to take place in Virginia in February 2020.

It's a messy situation for both actors but things are looking up for Heard. She is currently working on the series adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand and is set to reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman 2. Depp is expected to return as Gellert Grindelwald in the third Fantastic Beasts movie which will begin production next year.
