Aquaman is Now the Highest Grossing Film in the DCEU

The DCEU was in a huge slump ever since Justice League, but the franchise has managed to get back on its feet after the release of Aquaman. The movie is apparently doing so well in the box office, that it's now sitting on the top of the highest grossing films in the DCEU.

According to Box Office Mojo, Aquaman is the first DCEU film to make it past the $1 billion mark worldwide. Second to that list is Batman v Superman with Wonder Woman placing third. When it comes to the domestic box office though, Wonder Woman still sits at the very top with Aquaman placing fifth after Man of Steel.

Then again, those numbers could change as the movie continues its run.

According to Forbes, Aquaman has already passed the infamous Dark Knight when it comes to the box office, but is yet to overtake The Dark Knight Rises. With the film's ridiculous success though, I'm pretty sure those numbers are bound to change by the time Aquaman finishes its theatrical run.

Personally, I thought Aquaman was fine when it comes to an overall film. My biggest issue with the movie was the predictable plot and some of the shoddy acting (looking at you, teen Aquaman!). But the strengths definitely shine when it comes to the horror aspect of the film, which James Wan was aiming for all along.

Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people -- and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm's half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.
