Aquaman Has Just Beaten The Dark Knight To Become DC’s Top Film Overseas

It's been close to three weeks since Aquaman's watery premiere and now that we've finally moved on to another year it looks like Jason Momoa's first standalone film as Arthur Curry has just taken its place as DC's Best Performing Movie overseas.

Forbes has a detailed report of Aquaman's box office tracking both at the domestic and international box office, and according to the publication's analysts, the film is already shooting past The Dark Knight as DC's top dog at the overseas box office. While the final numbers from the New Year's Eve box office haven't been fully tallied yet, the James Wan-directed DC Extended Universe entry is set to remain the victor in ticket sales – not quite a surprise considering that Aquaman has been at the top of the box office for the past few weeks.

The film is currently on pace to rake in $800 million from the overseas crowd, and analysts project the film to pass the $1 billion dollar milestone before January ends.

This is pretty big news for DC fans. The DCEU has had trouble finding its footing with the past few entries like Justice League which not only failed at the box office but also flopped among critics and fans. The DCEU needed another hit outside of Wonder Woman to keep itself alive. Now, with Aquaman keeping strong, fans can only look forward to other films that the DCEU has to offer, including David Sandberg's Shazam! as well as Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Aquaman is currently screening in cinemas.
