There's no denying that Amber Heard has become one of Tinseltown's most controversial celebrities. As the ongoing defamation trial against her rolls on, things currently aren't looking all that promising for the Aquaman star's future in the DC Extended Universe.

Now, in a shocking new development, the director of the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom James Wan has apparently unfollowed the Mera actress on Instagram and it has set the platform ablaze amid Amber's ongoing trial with her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

On Twitter, eagle-eyed fans were able to spot the filmmaker's recent activity on the photo-sharing up and have pretty much confirmed that Amber is no longer on his "following" list.

Interestingly, Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment's respective Instagram accounts have apparently also unfollowed the 36-year-old actress. While WB has yet to air its stand amidst the controversy, many are under the impression that Heard's days in the franchise are numbered especially after reports surfaced last month that her screentime in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was reduced.

A simple "unfollow" on social media may not seem like a huge deal when you think about it. However, it's worth noting that there have been previous rumors suggesting Wan was pretty adamant about keeping Amber in the sequel despite the strong demand from fans to see the actress get ousted from the DCEU. Even lead star Jason Momoa was said to be instrumental in Heard becoming a part of Aquaman 2.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's theatrical release has been rescheduled to March 17, 2023.
