Aquaman Director James Wan No Longer Producing Resident Evil Reboot

The Resident Evil movies left a bad taste on the mouths of many video game fans, as this series of films were unfaithful to the source material and often took ridiculous concepts that were never a part of the franchise. When it was announced that Aquaman director James Wan was producing a series reboot, fans were happy since Wan has experience with horror movies and they could finally forget about the Mia Jokovic installments.

However, during a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, Wan revealed that he is no longer attached to the project, which is pretty disappointing to hear. Interestingly enough, Wan also revealed that his attachment to projects are announced before they are finalized, so some of them aren't even official yet. He did say that he wasn't doing Resident Evil anymore so it seems like that was actually finalized.

It's actually a shame that Wan won't be involved anymore since the reboot is said to take some inspiration from the acclaimed Resident Evil 7. Changing the formula completely from previous games, many saw this as one of the best horror games ever made and showed that Capcom was willing to take chances with its franchises.

Considering how creepy and well-written Resident Evil 7 was, having a movie that takes some inspiration from it would have been fantastic. Here is hoping that Wan leaving doesn't change that since it could make the franchise feel fresh again.

No release date for the Resident Evil reboot has been revealed. Resident Evil 7 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
