Aquaman Director James Wan Hints that 'Lost Kingdom' Could Be His Last DC Film

There's no denying that director James Wan pretty much made Arthur Curry a formidable and credible superhero and there's a reason why the original live-action Aquaman film scored over 1 billion dollars at the global box office. Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. immediately greenlit the sequel and despite facing several setbacks over the last couple of months, production for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has officially kickstarted.

However, Wan doesn't seem interested in the possibility of doing a third film. To those unaware, the director has never done a trilogy in his career, and apparently, he has a good reason for it. In an interview with IGN, Wan claims that he tends to get bored after doing a sequel and a studio would be fortunate enough if they can convince him to do two films in the same series.

He explains: "There's a reason why I don't make three movies in the same series. It'd be lucky to get me to make a sequel. And then after that, I just get bored. I want to do something different."

Wan potentially leaving the Aquaman franchise following the Lost Kingdom would be a massive blow for the DC Extended Universe. But you know, it's not too late to have a change of heart and if Warner Bros. and DC could present him a pretty compelling story for the third installment, then I'm pretty sure it'll be hard for him to resist returning to helm the project. I mean, considering Aquaman's rich comic book history, there's still so much to explore about him.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits cinemas in December 2022.
