Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom Synopsis Teases an Unlikely Alliance and A Terrifying New Threat

We still have to wait a full year before we get to watch Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom but we finally have new details about the highly-anticipated DC Extended Universe sequel. The official synopsis for the Jason Momoa movie has just been revealed and it looks like we're getting an "uneasy alliance" as Arthur Curry faces a terrifying new threat!

The premise of Aquaman 2 had been a mystery for some time now although comic book fans believe it would be connected to the mysterious Black City. Interestingly, the new synopsis for the DCEU sequel makes no mention of the Lost Kingdom but confirms that something ancient and dangerous is coming next year.

The official synopsis for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom reads as follows:

"When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation."

It's an interesting tease at things to come next December. It is believed that the "unlikely ally" might be one of the villains from the first film which means Aquaman could end up working with Orm or Black Manta.

But what is the "ancient power" that is unleashed in the sequel? That remains to be a mystery but there are speculations that it could be connected to the titular kingdom Necrus, which is ruled by the tyrannical Mongo who hates all surface dwellers. Could Mongo threaten humanity when the Black City reappears in Aquaman 2? Hopefully, we'll learn more about the film in the near future.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Patrick Wilson, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, Randall Park, and Nicole Kidman. The sequel recently wrapped production and is already scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
